Nothing beats a summer day spent soaking up the sunshine and cooling off in the water. If you’re looking to escape the SC heat, there are plenty of locations that have just what you need. From scenic lakes to exciting waterparks, there’s plenty of opportunities to make a splash this summer. Pack a lunch, lather on sunscreen, and dive in!

Paris Mountain State Park
Located just five miles from downtown Greenville, Paris Mountain State Park is the closest lake spot. It is a relatively small lake that includes a clean beach with swimming access, perfect for families with young children. Swimming is free; the only fee is park admission, which is $6 for adults and $3.50 for children.
Table Rock State Park
If you’re willing to drive a bit further, Table Rock State Park is 30 miles from downtown Greenville, but offers incredible mountain views. Head to the sandy beach on Pinnacle Lake or the clear waters of Carrick Creek Falls. Same as Paris Mountain, swimming is free; the only fee is park admission, which is $6 for adults and $3.50 for children.

Devil’s Fork State Park at Lake Jocassee
A personal favorite swimming spot of mine, only an hour and 15 minutes from downtown Greenville, would be Lake Jocassee. The water is crystal clear and the mountain backdrop is stunning. Visitors can enjoy paddle boarding and hiking, too. The only fee for swimming is park admission. Pack a picnic and make a day out of this one!
Lake Keowee
Lake Keowee is a beloved swimming spot for SC natives and visitors, located less than an hour from downtown Greenville. Its beaches are known to have exceptional water quality thanks to its flowing mountain streams. There are lots of places to swim along Lake Keowee, including High Falls County Park, South Cove County Park, Mile Creek Park, and The Jumping Rock. (High Falls County Park even has a playground for younger visitors). Swimming is free but parking is $3-$5, depending on which beach you visit.

Greenville County Aquatic Complex
If mountain lakes aren't your thing or you're looking to travel a shorter distance, Greenville County Aquatic Complex is a great place to cool off this summer. It includes 2 indoor pools: an Olympic sized, competition pool and a therapy pool. Finally, their 3 visit memberships are incredibly affordable, making it a great place to visit for families.
The Salvation Army Kroc Center of Greenville
The Salvation Army Kroc Center of Greenville is another excellent indoor pool, five minutes from downtown Greenville. It has 3 indoor pools: a recreation pool, lap pool, and hot tub. The recreation pool has spray features and climbing structures, making it almost like a mini waterpark. Two hour passes are $12; they also have monthly/yearly passes.

Otter Creek Waterpark
When’s the last time you went down a waterslide? It’s exhilarating! One of the best places to swim and splash in Greenville is Otter Creek Waterpark, especially for families with young children. It has 4 slides, a 7000 sq. ft. leisure pool, and a splash pad. Tickets are $14.50 for adults and $11 for individuals under 41’. It’s so fun!
Discovery Island
Another lovely waterpark to visit, this time in Simpsonville, SC, is Discovery Island. It has 2 waterslides, a lazy river, splash pad, and a FlowRider (wave simulator). Children also love the giant water friendly playground beside the pool. Adult tickets are $15.50, and children’s tickets are $11.

This Summer, don’t wait until your friend with a pool invites you over. Cool off in style at the lake, pool, or waterpark, all in Greenville, SC. Relax with scenic, mountain views or party in a winding lazy river. As long as water is involved, you can’t go wrong.
